27 May SLS NSW Covid-19 Update for Clubs and Members
|COVID-19 Update to Clubs and Members|
Friday 22 May 2020
Dear Club and Branch Presidents,
Surf Life Saving NSW continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 Pandemic through official sources including the Australian Government Department of Health, NSW Healthand NSW Sport.
As outlined last week, the situation remains extremely fluid and we will continue to interpret what impact the current Government rules and regulations have on surf clubs and their members and provide up to date information on a regular basis.
Further easing of restrictions in NSW including schools returning to full strength and restaurants and clubs/pubs re-opening for up to 50 patrons (from 1 June) is a signal that the government is looking to progressively open up as many activities as possible that can be safely resumed.
We are aware that many clubs and members are keen to resume training activities and start to access surf club facilities as soon as possible. This is important for the physical and mental health and wellbeing of all members and we will continue to advocate for the progressive re-introduction of Surf Life Saving activities throughout the state.
This week we formally applied for an exemption to the NSW Health Orders in some key areas, on the basis of ensuring the safety of our lifesavers, who are required to keep proficient in their rescue skills and our Support Operations volunteers and callout teams must be rescue ready at all times.
In the near future we hope to be able to commence critical training and skills maintenance in areas such as RWC, IRB, Board Rescue and Tube Rescue activities.
Our Surf Sport team has also been hard at work putting together a comprehensive Return to Sport Plan for Surf Life Saving in NSW. This is an agile plan which will be updated progressively as restrictions are eased. Please refer to the plan on our website and check back regularly for updates.
