The aim of the (SLSA) Surf Rescue Certificate course, is to provide younger club members who have come through the nippers ranks to help equip them with the knowledge of basic patrolling, first aid and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in life saving operations.
Candidates must be a minimum of 13 years old on the date of final assessment.
This is the minimum water safety qualification required if you wish to compete for your club, and also includes participating on patrols within your Club as well as water safety.
The course has the following learning outcomes:
- rescue techniques (boards/rescue tubes),
- surf awareness,
- resuscitation (CPR),
- first aid,
- improve fitness, team work, patrolling.
Course Duration: Approximately 8-10 weeks
- Candidates must be 13 years old (on the date of the final assessment)
- Candidates must swim 200 meters in 5 minutes (or less) in swimming pool no less than 25 metres, (or over a measured open water course on flat water). This requirement must be fulfilled prior to commencing any training
All eligible Under 14s will be given an opportunity to complete their SRC. Details will be emailed to eligible candidates throughout the season to all Under 14 Nippers with a valid email address.
North Bondi SLSC runs Bronze Medallion certificate courses during the Nippers season. The course involves commitment and time, usually one night during the week and following Nippers on a Sunday. The course usually runs for around 8 weeks.
Bronze Medallion holders are able to volunteer as Water Safety at Sunday Nippers, Competition Squad Training and Carnivals, and require 40 volunteer hours per season to retain their Bronze Medallion.
